A video shared by @ANI on social media platform X shows the aftermath of a bridge on the Bhakra river in Bihar. According to an online report by Amar Ujala, the bridge had already collapsed and sunk into the river before it was even opened.
The incident took place in Sikti area of Araria district when a bridge constructed at a cost of millions of rupees near Padriya Ghat on Bhakra river suddenly collapsed into the river.
Following the incident, panic gripped the area, with people alleging that poor quality materials were used in the construction of the bridge, causing it to collapse even before it was opened.
Authorities have recently begun work to repair the bridge's approaches, but claim the accident occurred before that was completed.
Congress leader Pradeep Kumar Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Vijay Kumar Mandal blamed the incident on poor reporting and official apathy. They alleged that poor quality work was carried out at night during the bridge piling work. The Congress leaders called for a high-level probe into the matter and demanded action against those responsible and supervisors.
In another post, ANI shared a video on the Araria bridge collapse with the caption, “Sikti MLA Vijay Kumar said, 'The bridge collapsed due to the negligence of the construction company owner. I demand that the administration conduct a probe into it.”
The video also created panic among social media users, with one user writing, “This happens every year in Bihar. It's a routine,” while another wrote, “Looks like they are swimming on the bridge due to the heat. Anything can happen in Bihar.”
“Bihar and the bridge collapse is a never ending saga,” another user added.
