A video of a woman being swept away by a giant wave in Sochi, Russia, went viral on the Internet on Wednesday. The incident happened on June 16th when the 20-year-old woman was walking on the beach with her boyfriend.
A viral video shows a couple holding hands and teasing each other as they walk along the beach, before being swept away by a strong wave. The man manages to escape, but the woman is swept away by the wave. At the end of the video, the helpless man can be seen searching for his girlfriend.
X-user Colin Lugg shared the video, writing, “A woman was swept out to sea in Sochi, Russia while her boyfriend desperately tried to save her. Tragic. The incident reportedly happened when the couple was visiting from the Russian city of Lipetsk.”
“The couple were seen heading towards the water's edge when a huge wave came crashing in, engulfing the unidentified 20-year-old woman. The man tried to save her but it was too late. 'At this time the search has not produced any results and operations are continuing,' Southern Regional Search and Rescue said,” he wrote.
Rescue teams reportedly expanded their search area from Riviera Beach to the Mamaika subdivision.

“Unless you're an experienced swimmer you shouldn't wade/swim in waves that big,” one user commented, while another wrote, “How awful. Saw this today and my only thought is that her boyfriend didn't try very hard to save her. Sad.”
