People heading to Mexico were warned of possible flooding and strong winds in parts of the country.
This comes as holidaymakers have been advised to avoid visiting 11 regions in Mexico.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said: “Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 is currently heading towards the coast of Tamaulipas state and is expected to make landfall on the morning of Thursday 20 June.”
“It is currently forecast to become a tropical storm by Wednesday, June 19. A tropical storm warning has been issued for the Tamaulipas coast.

“Strong winds, heavy rains and coastal flooding are expected in northeastern Mexico, with flooding and landslides possible in some areas.”
Britons have been warned to be on the lookout for extreme weather in many popular tourist destinations, with flash flooding in parts of Spain and the risk of wildfires in Greece.
Earlier this month, flooding in Palma, Mallorca, left tourists stranded at the airport.
Temperatures in Greece have topped 40°C, prompting further warnings for tourists visiting the country.
While extreme weather remains a concern in many holiday destinations, people considering traveling to Mexico are also being warned about potential safety risks.
The FCDO said Mexico is a popular holiday destination for Brits seeking luxury and sun, but safety remains a concern in the country.
The ministry said crime rates were of concern in 11 different regions and tourists had been warned not to travel unless essential.
Due to high crime rates, visiting these areas may pose safety risks for tourists.
