Volunteers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have traveled to Greece as the search for the retired deputy gets into full swing.
Albert Carivet, 59, of Hermosa Beach, went missing while hiking on the Greek island of Amorgos on June 11. The island was experiencing a heatwave at the time, with temperatures reaching 97 degrees.
After Kalibet went missing, his girlfriend and brother traveled to the island to help with the search, and now volunteers from the Sheriff's Department are flying to Greece in two separate trips to help bring Kalibet home, according to an online fundraiser.
“Good morning. It's 6pm on Friday in Amorgos. Thanks to everyone's generosity, our second wave has finally arrived on the island after 30 hours of three flights and one ferry,” said GoFundMe organizer Robin Winston, who describes himself as a close friend of Kalibet's. “They are briefing with Oliver now and can't wait to get started soon. Thank you for your prayers for Albert.”

Money raised from the fundraiser, which had raised more than $35,000 as of Saturday morning, will cover airfare, drones, hotel accommodations and meals for those helping with the search.
Winston told KTLA that Amorgos, which is about half the size of Catalina, has few resources and is difficult to access because it doesn't have an airport.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said in a statement:
“We are actively working with multiple agencies overseas to assist in the search for Deputy Carivet and will utilize all resources available to return him to his loved ones.”
