A Nova Scotia man who just won a $1 million jackpot says he has no plans to stop buying lottery tickets after winning the big prize.
Corey Callahan of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, checked his numbers on the Atlantic Lottery app a few weeks ago after finding out he'd won a life-changing prize.
“I'm going to be rich,” he told the Atlantic Lottery in a statement.
“It was quite a shock. I sat there for a while and I think they put me through the machine a few times just to be sure.”
The first person he told about his win was his father, who he woke up at 6:30 a.m. to tell him the good news.
“My dad always played, so I've been playing since I was 19,” he says. “I always buy tickets, but I don't expect to win.”
He held on to the ticket for a week before collecting his winnings. He said it still hasn't sunk in that he's a millionaire, adding that for now, life is “just the same as before.”
The winner said he thinks his parents were more thrilled about the check than he was.
“They may cry, but I won't cry,” he said.
Callahan said he doesn't have any big plans with the winnings, except maybe to buy a new car.
“That'll be the first thing I get. I'll just have a look around and see what catches my eye.”
He also said he plans to continue playing the lottery and buy more tickets.
“I still buy them. I've been buying them ever since I won,” he said.
The winning Lotto Max ticket was purchased at Jack's Place in Glace Bay. The retailer will receive a 1% merchant prize.
