Toronto Pearson Airport prepares to welcome millions of passengers during busy summer travel season
Toronto Pearson International Airport is preparing for its busiest travel season, anticipating millions of passengers this summer. In coordination with the Canadian Air Transport Security Agency (CATSA), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP), airport officials have shared tips for summer travel.
The airport expects that during peak travel periods it will handle more than 160,000 passengers per day, up 8% from 2023. Additionally, more than 1,100 flights will operate on the busiest summer days, up 3% from last year. July and August are the peak months, but there has already been an increase in travellers in June, with high levels expected to remain until September.
Passengers are encouraged to take advantage of digital tools to streamline their travel experience during peak hours.
YYZ Express: An online reservation system that allows travelers to reserve a spot in the security line up to 72 hours in advance, resulting in shorter wait times. Mobile Passport Control: A USCBP app that allows travelers to submit information digitally for a smoother departure experience for U.S.-bound travelers. Viscount Station Drop-off: Free train service to Terminals 1 and 3 drops passengers off at Viscount Station, avoiding crowded terminal sidewalks. Live Wait Times Dashboard: Provides real-time information on airport wait times. Peak Travel Times Dashboard: Notifies travelers when they will be passing through particularly busy times. Advance Declaration: This service offered by the CBSA allows travelers to submit customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours in advance and allows them to use the express lanes in the customs area. Online Parking Reservations: Register online to reserve a parking spot in advance. Follow X: Major operational updates.
Travelers should still arrive at the airport three hours before departure for international flights and two hours before departure for domestic flights.
