Alex Morgan was left out of the 18-man U.S. soccer team for the Olympics
U.S. forward Alex Morgan was left out of coach Emma Hayes' squad for the Paris Olympics. Among the list of 18 players, Morgan was the most conspicuous absence. The 34-year-old three-time Olympian injured her left ankle on April 19 and missed more than a month with the San Diego Wave. She has since returned. Morgan was also named to Hayes' squad for two friendlies against South Korea earlier this month. Morgan has 224 appearances for the national team, scoring 123 goals. “There's no denying it's been a very rigorous process,” Hayes said.

Jess Margera, who called her brother “a good guy when he wasn't messing around,” said the altercation left her with a ruptured eardrum.

In all, more than $250 million in federal funds were stolen, with only about $50 million ever recovered, authorities said.

MEDELLIN, Colombia (AP) — At least one person was killed and 20 injured when a cable car in the city of Medellin broke down and fell onto a sidewalk next to the station's platform, Colombian authorities said. It was not immediately clear if the people who died were passengers in the gondola-style vehicles that are part of the city's public transportation system. Medellin Mayor Federico Gutierrez said online that 10 people were on board when the vehicle fell. The cable system's operator said one of the cars hit another on a downhill slope and broke down as it approached a station in the city's northeast. An investigation is underway.

Closing arguments begin for Sunday Ticket subscriber class action lawsuit against NFL
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Closing arguments will be heard Wednesday in a class action lawsuit brought by “Sunday Ticket” subscribers alleging the NFL violates antitrust laws. The case has withstood numerous challenges, including one filed in 2015 that was dismissed. The suit alleges that the NFL violated antitrust laws by allowing DirecTV to sell its “Sunday Ticket” package, an out-of-market bundling of Sunday afternoon games aired on CBS and FOX, at an inflated price and withholding competition. The case began June 6 with 10 days of testimony from economists and league executives, including NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Native American ceremony celebrates birth of white buffalo calf in Yellowstone Park
HELENA, Montana (AP) — Ceremonies and celebrations are planned near the western entrance of Yellowstone National Park to mark the recent birth of a white buffalo calf in the park, an event of spiritual importance to many Native American tribes. Witnesses saw the white calf shortly after it was born in Lamar Valley on June 4. For the Lakota, the birth is both a harbinger of better times and a signal that more must be done to protect the planet and its animals. During Wednesday's ceremony, the calf's name will be announced and members of several tribes will explain the spiritual and cultural significance of the calf's birth in their traditions.

Chanel takes to the opera with a glittering couture collection without a designer
PARIS (AP) — Chanel's latest haute couture show during Paris Fashion Week was a masterful display of theatricality. Few Paris fashion houses can sell out the Paris Opera and receive ovations from Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and other luminaries without hiring a designer. It was a testament to the enduring strength of Chanel and its world-famous ateliers, even after Virginie Viard's abrupt departure on June 5.
