Brian Kelly and the LSU football staff have entered the NCAA recruiting hiatus with several 2025 targets preparing to announce their college decisions.
Led by a pair of highly coveted defensive linemen, the Tigers are on a recruiting trend and are primed for a spectacular win over the Bayou Bengals in July.
LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis has been in contact with some of the top prospects in the country and has stepped up his recruiting efforts as he is in need of a dominant player up front.
Now, the first week of July will be a chance for the Tigers to acquire two of their top targets.
Zion Williams: 4-star defensive lineman
The highly-popular defensive lineman is considered a talent by the LSU staff and the program rolled out the red carpet for him during his official visit this month. Williams traveled to Baton Rouge in early June and stayed there for a few days.
The Texas native has the TCU Horned Frogs as a possible option, but has just made his commitment with LSU official, with signing day set for July 4. LSU feels they have the lead in this one as time is running out for a decision to be made.
An intimidating forward at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 315 pounds, Beau Davis and his scouting team have the Tigers leading the charge in their pursuit of Williams, targeting her as a major priority late in the rounds. Both Davis and Blake Baker have been in hot pursuit of Williams recently.
LSU is expected to land Williams and get a chance to add some much-needed depth to its interior defensive line.
Damien Shanklin: 4-star EDGE (No. 1 prospect in Indiana)

The four-star EDGE made a big move for defensive line coaches Bo Davis and Kevin Peoples, taking a visit to Death Valley in early June.
The No. 1 prospect out of Indiana will be outside of LSU's recruiting reach in the Southern region, but LSU quickly took notice of Shanklin as one of the top EDGE prospects for the 2025 cycle.
Now, coming off a trip to Baton Rouge, LSU is in the running to land the coveted player from Indiana.
On3 Sports recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong predicted LSU will be successful in landing Shanklin as the recruiting process accelerates.
LSU hosted Shanklin for a highly anticipated official visit, as did several other top schools on his list, including the Ohio State Buckeyes.
According to On3 Sports, Shanklin originally had Aug. 29 as his signing date but recently changed his mind.
The highly-touted edge rusher is expected to announce his decision on July 5th, with LSU leading the way in his recruitment.
LSU currently leads with two highly-anticipated defensive linemen, with both Williams and Shanklin expected to announce their college preferences next week.
LSU Country will have updates on both prospects as Brian Kelly and the Tigers plan to make some significant moves in July to bolster their 2025 class.
