It started as a corporate food donation drive and has grown into a friendly competition between three Clinton businesses benefiting the less fortunate in Huron County.
Bob TenHoeve of Greenway Animal Nutrition in Clinton started an in-house food drive in June, then discovered that summer is the time when food donations are the lowest for the Huron County Food Distribution Center, which collects and distributes food to 10 food banks in Huron County and another in Perth County.
Tenhove challenged neighbors Farm Credit Canada Inc. and Globes Television & Appliances Inc. to beat him in collections. On Friday, the three companies held a “weigh-in showdown” to determine the winner.
Greenway came out on top, but overall more than 700 pounds of food was collected.

We thought June would be a good opportunity because food banks are short on food this time of year,” Tenhove said.
Greenway hopes to get more businesses involved later this year or next year to collect even more food for the Huron County Food Bank.
“We'll probably do this again at some point and hopefully we can get more companies to take us up on it and see if we can beat our numbers next year,” he said.
