There have been numerous reports linking Arsenal with Frimpong as their first choice for the right-back position this summer, with Liverpool also rumoured to be in the running, with new manager Arne Slott said to be a fan of his compatriot Frimpong.
But Romano said no talks would take place until after Euro 2024, when Frimpong will remain with the Netherlands national team.
What did Romano say?
“Jeremy Frimpong was recently linked with a move to Arsenal and more recently to Liverpool,” Romano said.
“But for now we have not informed them about Frimpong because he will not make any decisions about his future during the Euros. This is the plan now.”
“The release clause is still valid but Frimpong wants to focus on the Euros so things are calm for now.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Frimpong and was interested in signing him in the January transfer window.
Arteta is keen to sign a more natural wing-back ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Ben White has often been deployed at right-back but is a centre-back by trade, Takehiro Tomiyasu is not seen as the ideal solution and is frequently injured, while last summer's acquisition Julian Timber is seen as better suited at centre-back after missing most of last season with a long-term injury.
Frimpong played for Manchester City's youth team from 2010 to 2019 before joining Celtic for two seasons.
He moved to Leverkusen in 2021 and played a key role in the team's historic 2023-24 season, which saw the team go unbeaten in the Bundesliga, win the DFB Pokal and finish as runners-up in the Europa League.
He scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions for Leverkusen last season.
