K. Armstrong was hacked to death by a six-member gang in the city’s Perambur neighbourhood on the evening of July 5. The 47-year-old Armstrong had been chatting with friends and supporters near his home when the assailants attacked him with weapons.
Armstrong’s friends fled as gang members brandished machetes and sickles and threatened anyone who tried to intervene.
His family members rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood with serious injuries on his head and neck. They rushed him to a private hospital in the city, where doctors declared him brought dead.
A special team, headed by Inspector Chiranjeevi of Senbium police, has been formed to track down the suspects. Police are investigating a possible rivalry with a criminal from north Chennai who is in jail.

According to a PTI report, when the accused, K. Thiruvengadam, was taken to a place in north Chennai by investigators as part of a probe to uncover weapons hidden at a location, he attacked the police and attempted to escape, leading to him being shot by the police.
He was rushed to hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.
Armstrong was murdered on July 5. The murder sparked outrage and the opposition claimed that law and order had deteriorated completely.

K. Tiruvengadam, the main suspect in the murder of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader K. Armstrong, was shot dead on Sunday after attacking police officers and trying to escape custody, PTI reported, citing police sources. Tiruvengadam was one of 11 suspects arrested in the case. Armstrong, 52, was killed by a group of assailants on July 5.
