When Season 8 of Chicago Med ended, fans saw the series regulars leave and live happily ever after. Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is no longer on the show, but that doesn't mean fans are any less eager to see what's going on at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. He has to sell the hospital because billionaire Jack Deighton (Sasha Roiz) has ruined his hospital's reputation and his own bank account with his OR 2.0. That means there will be another change in management.
After a long fall without any new One Chicago programming, we finally have a premiere date for Chicago Med season 9. Here, we discuss when Chicago Med will return, who is expected to appear in Season 9, and what we know so far.

chicago med season 9 release date
Chicago Med Season 9 premieres Wednesday, January 17th at 8/7 on NBC. According to Deadline, Chicago Med, like most of Dick Wolf's films, is considering 13 episodes for next season.
What will Chicago Med season 9 be about?
Season 8 of Chicago Med ended with the collapse of OR 2.0 and Jack Deighton's tenure as owner of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, so season 9 will likely feature new management. They'll also have to explore what the hospital is like without Dr. Halstead after he resigned and left for Seattle to live with Natalie Manning (former series regular Torrey DeVito).
The only storylines that remain beyond that are Dr. Dean Archer (Stephen Webber) still in need of a kidney donation after his son's relapse, and Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) finding his girlfriend Liliana ( All that matters is that he has unresolved relationship issues with Alette Taylor) and his brother Powell. (Christoph Conrad).
chicago med season 9 cast
Is there a new doctor in the house? there will be. TV Line reported on November 13 that Season 9 will add a major new cast member, a 30-something male doctor with a troubled background and past with Dr. Charles, played by Oliver Platt. He may become a series regular in season 10.
No other cast members have been announced, but one actor who definitely won't be returning is Gehlfuss, who left the show in the Season 8 finale. After his departure, only three original cast members remain on Chicago Med: Marlin Barrett, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Oliver Platt. There's a good chance that Lloyd won't be back either, as her character sells the hospital. Below are additional people likely to return.

S. Epatha Merkerson: Sharon Goodwin Oliver Platt: Dr. Daniel Charles Merlin Barrett: Maggie Lockwood Dominic Rains: Dr. Crockett Marcel Stephen Webber: Dr. Dean Archer Jesse Schramm: Dr. Hannah Asher
